SHADES OF BLUE

Welcome to my first makeup-related video! This is a very big step for me, and, let me tell you, it's not easy displaying your bare face on camera for the entire internet to see. Makeup has always been something I am mildly obsessed with, and I think it's about time I share this passion with the world. I distinctly remember shutting myself in my room at the age of 14, borrowing my parent's tiny digital camera, and trying to film different makeup looks that I would later edit and keep on my computer. I never shared them with the world in fear how others might receive it. And the cycle would repeat for many years after that all the way into my time at university. At this point in my life, I have developed much thicker skin, so the thought doesn't scare me anymore--it excites me!

Over the years, my friends and peers have, for some reason, always asked me about what products I use, what techniques I think are best, and where I buy my makeup. Every time, I feel shocked and flattered that people trust me to give them advice on beauty, and I wish I could show everyone who asks that beauty is so subjective. The products I love and use might not be the best ones for everyone. I think that is the best part about makeup: it's variability.

My marketing professor recently said something during class in regard to makeup, and I had to bite my tongue to not lash back. She said that "at the end of the day, makeup is false hope," and I could not disagree more. To me, makeup is a form of art. It is a way to of expressing yourself. It's about celebrating the beauty and unique features in each of us, and highlighting them. It is confidence, power, strength, self-love. And, the same can be said about the radient women and men who choose not to wear any makeup at all. That is the beauty in beauty. It is so different for each individual. If a little red lipstick is what inspires a young girl to continue dreaming, and looking ahead at a bright future, then let her keep hoping. There is absolutely nothing "false" about that.

So, with all this being said, please enjoy my first makeup tutorial! Enjoy :)
